Pinny AI Map Assistant
Generate markers, trace boundaries, configure filters, translate entire maps into 16 languages, and query plan capacity using Pinny, Layerpin's built-in conversational AI assistant.
Meet Pinny: Your AI Interactive Map Copilot
Pinny is Layerpin's native conversational AI assistant, engineered specifically for interactive floorplans, architectural blueprints, campus maps, and schematics. Instead of manually plotting dozens of pins or copy-pasting translation spreadsheets, you can describe what you need in plain language, attach reference documents, or let vision-enabled models visually place markers directly on your artwork.
- Human-in-the-Loop Validation: Pinny operates strictly through structured proposals. It never silently alters or publishes live maps without your explicit verification.
- Draft-First Workspace Safety: Approved changes write directly to your editor draft session. Live visitor embeds remain untouched until you review and click Publish.
- Zero-Markup Direct BYOK: Connect your own developer API keys. Keys are AES-encrypted at rest on the server and billed natively by your chosen AI provider.
- Persistent Threads & Proposals: Conversations and proposal states persist in your database. Close your browser, return anytime, and review past drafts or retry batches.
BYOK Setup & Supported AI Providers
Pinny is available for eligible paid Layerpin plans (Starter, Pro, and Ultra). To protect your privacy and ensure predictable billing, Pinny operates on a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model. Layerpin does not charge token markup—your provider bills your API key directly at native developer rates.
Setting Up Your Developer Key
Open Pinny in the dashboard or map editor. In the chat header, click More chat actions (…) > API keys. Select your provider, paste your developer key, and click Save key. Keys are verified on first message send and are never visible in plaintext again.
Important: Consumer chat subscriptions (such as ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro) do not provide API access. You need a developer platform account with billing enabled. Never paste secret API keys into prompts or map descriptions.
Account Chat vs Map Chat Scopes
Pinny runs in two dedicated operational contexts, each equipped with tailored autonomous agent tools:
Launched from the main dashboard. Operates across your entire account, team workspace, and subscription quota.
What Pinny can do:
- Check map counts, published limits & monthly view quotas
- Search and find owned maps by title or list recent updates
- Read map dimensions, item counts & published snapshot status
Embedded directly inside the interactive Map Editor sidebar. Deeply aware of the canvas image, items, geometry, tags, and filters.
What Pinny can do:
- Plot customizable marker pins, polygons, rectangles & measurement lines
- Batch edit existing markers, tags, styling & custom fields
- Organize categories, legend toggles & interactive filter rails
- Translate all map content, filters & media text into 16 languages
- Visually inspect blueprint artwork to drop pins on rooms and landmarks
- Audit map quality to find missing descriptions or unassigned categories
Conversational Map Authoring
Pinny understands Layerpin's normalized 0–100 coordinate system, data schemas, and design styling tokens. You can build intricate maps in minutes through plain natural language:
1. Generating Pins, Icons & Structured Fields
Ask Pinny to generate individual pins or batches of hundreds of points of interest. Pinny configures coordinates, pin styles, hex colors, custom icons, tags, Markdown descriptions, and custom key-value fields automatically.
2. Ingesting Reference Spreadsheets (CSV, JSON, Markdown)
Don't retype directory data. Drag and drop a CSV, JSON file, or Markdown table right into the Map Chat composer. Pinny extracts names, phone numbers, opening hours, and tags, mapping them to structured fields and assigning them to categories.
3. Tracing Polygons, Boundaries & Zone Outlines
Pinny can generate vector boundaries, including complex polygon vertices, rectangles for exhibition booths, and circles for restricted radii, with fill opacity, border thickness, and label anchors.
4. Smart Category Organization & Filter Merging
Over time, maps accumulate messy categories. Pinny can analyze your items and propose single-choice or multi-choice filter rails. If you have duplicate categories (e.g. "Cafes" and "Dining"), Pinny can intelligently consolidate them into unified filters and remap all item assignments automatically.
Visual Image Inspection
When you select a model supporting visual inputs (such as GPT-4o, Claude Sonnet 5, or Gemini 3.5 Flash), Pinny can visually inspect your base map image to locate architectural rooms and drop pins directly on your artwork.
How Visual Placement Works
When you ask Pinny to place items based on visual features of your blueprint, it generates a high-definition preview render of your base image. The AI inspects the artwork, visually identifies room numbers, landmark labels, or parking bays, and converts their pixel locations into normalized map units (0 to 100).
Visual Pin Dropping Best Practices:
- Legible Labels:Upload high-resolution source images so architectural numbers and room labels are sharp.
- Give Visual Anchors:Guide Pinny with spatial cues (e.g., "Look at the Northeast corner near Entrance B; place markers on rooms 201 through 208").
- Check Approximate Geometry:AI visual coordinates are accurate suggestions. Always click Review Proposal to inspect pins on your map canvas before saving.
Full Multilingual Translations
Layerpin supports 16 native visitor languages. Instead of translating strings manually, Pinny can translate your complete map in a single comprehensive pass:
- Map Metadata: Map Title & Description
- Markers & Pins: Titles & Markdown Content
- Shapes & Zones: Titles, Descriptions & Text Labels
- Structured Fields: Custom Field Titles & Values
- Action Buttons: CTA Links & Modal Buttons
- Category Filters: Filter Names & Value Labels
- Media Images: Display Names & Descriptions
- Accessibility: Image Alt Text & Media Tags
- Proper Names: Preserves room IDs, SKUs & brand names
Multi-Language Proposal Review
When Pinny returns translations across multiple languages (e.g. French, Spanish, German), the proposal card renders language pills. You can preview changes per language, open the detailed diff dialog, and either apply languages individually or click Apply All.

Proposal Review & Safety Workflow
Layerpin ensures complete author control over your public interactive assets. Pinny operates strictly through validated proposal objects:
- 1Pinny Prepares a Structured ProposalWhen Pinny executes an authoring tool, it generates an interactive proposal card right in the chat conversation. The card displays item counts, category mappings, and a status badge (Ready to apply).
- 2Inspect in Card View or Table ViewClick 'Review Proposal' to open the full-screen inspector. Toggle between Card View (for visual layout inspection) and Table View (for high-density side-by-side diff comparison between original values and proposed updates).
- 3Fine-Tune with the In-Dialog EditorNeed to adjust a proposed marker title or tweak coordinates? Click any item in the proposal review dialog to open the inline Proposal Item Editor and modify values directly before saving.
- 4Apply to Editor Draft WorkspaceClick 'Add to draft' (or 'Apply All'). Items immediately render on your interactive canvas. You can drag markers, adjust zoom levels, or tweak colors in the standard editor inspector.
- 5Publish to Live Visitors When ReadyLive embeds and public links serve immutable published snapshots. Your draft updates are invisible to website visitors until you review the live multi-device preview and click 'Publish' in the top header.
Token Analytics & External MCP Integration
Pinny provides complete transparency over AI usage and extensible connectivity to external developer tools:
In the chat header, click More (…) > Token usage. Inspect exact prompt tokens, completion tokens, model IDs, and estimated provider costs across all your conversations.
Connect your Layerpin account to ChatGPT or external MCP clients via our secure endpoint at https://mcp.layerpin.com.
