Map View & Rendering Options
Configure how your interactive map renders for viewers: canvas image fit, initial zoom levels, maximum viewer zoom limits, selection centering, public UI controls, and compass rose calibration.
View & Rendering Architecture
Layerpin separates your authoring canvas from the public presentation experience. While editing, authors have unrestricted access to a 96× zoom ceiling, drawing tools, and layout rulers. For public viewers and website embeds, you can curate the exact presentation: canvas image fit, initial magnification, maximum zoom ceilings, camera easing durations, and interface HUD elements.
?tab=customize&panel=initial-view) to adjust canvas fitting, camera constraints, and public chrome controls.Canvas Image Fit (Cover vs. Contain)
The Image Fit control defines how your base floorplan or schematic adapts when the visitor's browser viewport or embed container has a different aspect ratio than your source image:
Expands the map image to completely fill 100% of the viewport width and height without any empty bars or letterboxing. If aspect ratios differ, outer edges are cropped symmetrically until the container is filled.
Guarantees that 100% of your map image and all outer boundary borders remain fully visible on screen upon load. If the container ratio differs, clean neutral background space (letterboxing/pillarboxing) appears.
Initial Zoom & Live Editor Sync
The Initial Zoom slider sets the starting magnification level when visitors open your public map or embed (from 1.0× baseline fitted scale up to your configured maximum viewer zoom).
Instead of guessing numerical zoom values, the panel continuously monitors your active canvas viewport in real-time. Simply pan and pinch-zoom the editor canvas until the layout looks ideal, then click Set as initial.
- Current View Counter: Displays live canvas zoom (e.g.
Current view: 2.4×) with a color-coded status indicator. - Instant Match Confirmation: Confirms with an emerald badge (
✓ Matches initial) when the starting view matches your current vantage point. - Ceiling Guard: If initial zoom exceeds the maximum viewer limit, Layerpin flags it with a red warning banner and offers an instant
Snap to limitbutton.
Maximum Viewer Zoom & Safeguards
The Maximum Viewer Zoom control establishes an upper ceiling (from 1.0× to 24.0×) for visitors on published maps and embedded widgets. While authors can always zoom up to 96× in the editor for sub-pixel pin positioning, capping viewer zoom prevents visitors from over-zooming into low-resolution raster artifacts or losing geographic orientation.
When you lower the maximum viewer zoom, Layerpin performs a comprehensive pre-flight impact check across your entire map configuration. If any settings (initial zoom, item selection zoom, marker bodies, or text labels) were previously configured above the new ceiling, Layerpin highlights the affected elements and displays a confirmation dialog:
Saves the new viewer limit without altering your item configurations. Items that begin beyond the limit will stay hidden in public view until the limit is raised again.
Automatically clamps all affected item visibility thresholds and selection zooms down to the new maximum ceiling so all content remains visible.
Selection Zoom & Camera Animations
When visitors interact with your map, Layerpin can automatically re-center the camera and magnify the selected location for optimal focus:
When enabled, clicking any marker, shape, or search result smoothly flies the camera to center on that item and applies your target Selection Zoom (e.g. 2.5×). Visitors immediately get an uncluttered, detailed closeup.
Controls the transition easing speed for all camera pans, zoom adjustments, and focus resets (default: 400ms). Use 150ms–300ms for rapid utilitarian exploration, or 800ms–1200ms for cinematic guided presentations.
Public Map Interface Controls
Customize which interface chrome elements appear over the map on public links and embedded websites:
Displays a prominent search bar allowing visitors to find pins by title, description keywords, tags, or custom metadata fields.
Renders category dimension filter pills or dropdown menus to let visitors isolate specific layers or departments.
Renders on-screen zoom in (+), zoom out (-), view reset, and fullscreen modal toggle buttons in the corner HUD.
Displays a persistent corner overview thumbnail showing the complete map with an active rectangle indicating the current viewport location.
Toggles the title overlay badge and formatted markdown description card to provide context for visitors upon load.
Displays a language selector dropdown for maps translated into multiple languages, with drag-and-drop ordering and default dialect fallbacks.
Interactive Compass & North Calibration
Architectural floorplans, engineering CAD drawings, and venue schematics are often drawn aligned with street grids or interior hallways rather than true geographic North. Layerpin features an interactive compass rose HUD that can be calibrated to point in any direction:
When Show Compass is enabled, an interactive compass rose appears on the map. Use the North Angle slider (with 1° granularity) to align the needle with your site's true cardinal orientation:
- 0° (Default): North points straight up along the vertical image axis.
- 90°: North points towards the right edge of the image canvas.
- 180°: North points straight down (for inverted floorplans or southern perspectives).
- 270°: North points towards the left edge of the image canvas.
Desktop Filter Layouts (Full vs. Compact)
When category filters are enabled, choose how they display on desktop viewports:
Renders category pill buttons horizontally across the top header toolbar. Visitors can toggle categories on or off with a single click without opening any menus. Ideal for maps with 2–5 primary categories.
Condenses all filter dimensions into a single sleek "Filters" dropdown button with active selection badges. Maximizes vertical screen real estate for the map canvas on laptop displays and narrow website embeds.
